I recently had the opportunity to work with Jim Richards for a Drive Experience day at Sandown Raceway. Punters were able to get a few laps in with Jim and his Porsche GT3 cup car.

Variety Club Ambassador Sue Stanley was also along for the day. They don’t call JR ‘Gentleman Jim’ for nothing. It’s not the first time I’ve been asked to do this and hopefully not the last.

Marc Cini’s new GT3 RS light weight carbon Porsche, wow what a machine. It was Marc’s frist time behind the wheel of this car and it was immediately recording 1:13’s on some shakedown laps.

Well there weren’t too many Maserati’s on display. It was more of a GT-R and EVO show. I went a long as a mate was racing his R32 GT-R. The car runs full electronic adjustable Tein suspension, HKS 25/30 turbos and a Haltech computer making around 450hp to the tyres.

Things were going well with the car lapping near the top of the ladder in the 1:21s until a mechanical issue forced an early exit. Unfortunately if you want to go fast you have to be prepared to break things.

The quickest GT-R on the day was this R33 lapping in the 1:18s.

More and more current model R35’s are attending track days.

This Ford owner had a lucky escape walking away uninjured after getting loose coming onto the front straight and sliding into the tyre barrier. Lucky for him he’d just had a roll cage installed the day before.

The last Holden to ever bare metal bumpers, the VH Commodore isn’t so plentiful as it once was. Simons streeter runs low elevens over the quarter mile and features a clean engine bay supporting a hot 355 Holden engine. Look out for this one in Street Commodores Magazine.
