The footy is back for 2009

Posted in Sport on March 30th, 2009 by admin

Being a Hawthorn fan it was great to get to the footy on Friday night at the MCG. The 2008 premiers Hawthorn were taking on Geelong in the grand final rematch. Although we didn’t win (103/111 final score) it was a great game as we were 44 points down early in the final quarter. We did have a few key players out. I think we should be in for a good year however.

Johnny Mac’s Exhausts VK

Posted in Cars on March 27th, 2009 by admin

Photographed for Street Commodores Magazine is Andrew Darby’s twin turbo VK Wagon.

The car is powered by a 355ci Holden engine with factory heads and a pair of cheap eBay turbos. So far 9.25/152 is the car’s best with the boys looking to run into the 8-second zone in the near future.

Time Attack Supra

Posted in Cars on March 27th, 2009 by admin

John MacKenzie’s Supra is a little more modified that most.

The car features a stroked 3.5L Toyota 2JZ engine good for 440kW to the back wheels.

The guys at IMS have recently fitted a 6spd sequential Hollinger gearbox that features tigher gearing. Considering this car has already gone 1:28 at Winton and 1:16 around Sandown it should go even quicker now. The car is racing at this coming weekend’s Superlap event at Oran Park.

Here’s another 2JZ powered car of a different kind. Paul Krouse’s very cool sleeper HR Holden has been retro fitted with Toyota power. Notice the trick looking water/air intercooler setup keeping everything inside the engine bay.

Lancer GSR

The GSR model was the first performance AWD based Lancer Mitsubishi released to the Australian public.

This neat 1994 example is far from stock and features include an EVO 2 bodykit, EVO 4 interior, coil-over suspension and an RVR 4G63 2L engine upgrade.

Terminator Salvation

Warner Bros. has released their third trailer to the new Terminator movie.

I’m really interested in the upcomming series of three movies as I hear they are quite different to the originals. The CGI also looks very good.

The new T600 series Terminators look downright scary. They will be one of many new style human killers to be shown in the movie.

Check out the animated poster.

Mar 15th,

You’ve gotta love the sound of a turbocharged V8 on full noise. These two were making a good job of destroying their tyres in the water box.

9.25/152

9.91/147

Ultimate Burnout Challenge

Mar 14th,

I don’t go to so many burnout events but went a long to this one due to work commitments.

I’ve never seen so much mud in my life. I’m surpised Avalon Raceway don’t have more gravel pathways to combat this.

Once the skies cleared it was all action.

Phillip Island Classic

Mar 13th,

The 2009 Phillip Island Classic Festival of Motorsport was held last week under gloomy conditions. Friday allowed competitors to get a feel for the track and luckily the weather turned out to be great. The event attracted a record entrant list of over 560 competitors.

I thought this was really cool, I heard someone say the engine only revs to 1200rpm.

This car looked to be a fair handful when boost came on.

I love watching the old Group A cars in action. Unlike the current V8 Supercars these machines are a lot closer to a road going vehicle and have no aerodynamics comapred to the current era.

E30 BMW M3′s rock. The baby faced assasin Glenn Seaton was driving one (not this one pictured). His lap times were reflecting 1:44s

RX7 track car

Mar 9th,

A friend is building a dedicated Mazda RX-7 track car. In non compliancable form late model Mazda’s are extrmely cheap and a fantastic platform for motorsport. This Mazda will eventually be boosted by a GT35 turbo and run on E85 ethanol fuel. The car is being sponsored by Mr Parts.

Team Illusiv

Mar 7th,

This car club has is a little more ‘exclusive’ than most. A large majority of members cars have been featured by magzines or won awards. The theme of ‘Street to Elite’ certainly fits well.

CHARGN

Mar 7th,

Photographed for Chrysler Action magazine, John’s Charger is a little out there compared to most. Under the bonnet is a twin turbo 318ci engine.

All Holden Day

Mar 1st,

Not as big as last years event, this event is at the great location of Flemminton Racecourse.

Got flares?

This HQ was different. Interior was a snakeskin theme

I really liked this Torana.

Possibly the neatest HK I’ve ever seen! No photo could ever do it justice.

Melbourne Motor Show

Feb 27th,

Unlike previous years, the theme for this years show was obvious. Green, hybrid and ECO-firendly were words used flat out by Manufacturer CEO’s.

The Fund Raiser 1 LS1 concept is a great concept – Educating young people about the auto industry and raising money for charity. I wrote a brief piece on this car for Street Machine Magazine.

BMW showed off the cool montage to the M1.

Colac road trip

Feb 25th,

Scoring a couple of jobs from a recent car show I drove down to Colac to snap a few photos of two cars. Damien and Plato are a father and son team who share a passion for muscle cars. Finding a place to shoot these cars proved to be difficult but in the end I think they tuned out ok.

Plato’s Cortina ran out of a fuel taking this driving shot which held us up breifly! The second shot is taken at the local church. Look out for it in Street Fords Magazine.

Being a black car, I decided to shoot Damien’s LH second allowing the sun to drop a bit but in the end I was struggling with light running out as we setup at the train station.

Closed drag session

Feb 22nd,

Good to see some high powered cars back at Calder Park but unfortunately on the day the track wasn’t really able to hold these cars. Hopefully one day we wll have some competition racing back in Victoria.
