All those in favour?

Quite often more than not you witness a movie trailer, they show you the good parts, it looks interesting, you see it and it’s a bit of a letdown. Well Kick-Ass is the complete opposite. None of the theatrical trailers appealed to me but I watched it on recommendation for a few friends and they were right. It struggles to be a serious and light hearted movie at the same time. There’s plenty of serious violence and gore in it but it never seems real and is far from shocking yet I wouldn’t let a youngster watch it.
I had no idea Nicholas Cage was cast before the screening and he plays one of the real hero’s of the movie in Big Daddy. His daughter played by Chloe Moretz is the real star of the flick who portrays the character Hit Girl. Check out the red band trailer below compared to the theatrical trailers and you’ll see just how different 2 movie trailers can be!

Plot
Dave Lizewski is an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan who one day decides to become a super-hero, even though he has no powers, training or meaningful reason to do so.

Stunning visual effects with a crafty plot, Inception is a very interesting piece of work. It’s certainly worth the price of admission but I found the entire movie to be a touch predictable. Director Christopher Nolan has cast a few members from the Batman crew but one character bares a disturbing resemblance to the late Heath Ledger. You may remember Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Tommy Solomon from 3rd Rock from the Sun. Well Joseph is all grown up now and plays the role of Arthur, Leonardo DiCaprio’s right hand man.

Plot
In a world where technology exists to enter the human mind through dream invasion, a highly skilled thief is given a final chance at redemption which involves executing his toughest job till date, Inception.

The New York Post reports
The new series would keep Beavis and Butt-head in their perpetual high-school state, but it would be updated so that the pals — who obsessively watch music videos on a battered TV set — could lob their snarky comments at more current targets like Lady Gaga.

See the world premiere trailer for Predators- a reinvention of the classic sci-fi franchise. Get ready for a hunt like no other.

The trailer depicts this story as being a little like Matt Damon’s previous Bourne trilogy but seriously it’s nothing like them, more like a marketing ploy to get bums on seats. First thing that struck me is that the complete lack of artificial lighting. It’s got an almost VHS quality about it with an apparent level of picture noise deliberately left in. The simplicity extends to the environment they are shooting in, everything is trashed in Baghdad. This movie is a little different as it’s based on true events.
Plot:
Following the American invasion of Iraq in 2003 Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller and his men are charged with finding the so-called weapons of mass destruction, whose existence justified American involvement, according to the Pentagon and their man in Baghdad.

Released back in September I finally caught a session of it the other night. It was never released in Australia however.
Plot: Set in a future-world where humans can control other humans in mass-scale, multi-player online gaming environments, a star player (Butler) from a game called “Slayers” looks to regain his independence while taking down the game’s mastermind.

Gerald Butler is a badass good guy, the token one man wrecking crew while Michael C Hall (Dexter) plays the control freak mastermind behind the virital relaity world. Gamer lifts many ideas from the classic 1987 flick The Running Man. I was waiting for Damon Killian to walk onto the set of Slayers.
Who loves you and who do you love?

The first half of this movie is far more entertaining than the second half. I could compare it to a real world version of the popluar computer game Counter Strike. Blokes gettnig fragged galore and yes there is gore, a lot of it. Bulter is only a few games away from being granted release but we know that isn’t supposed to happen – he needs to get out and save his wife and kid, yes a touch predictable but who cares as this is an action movie afterall.

Keep an eye out for the overweight slob who is controlling Butler’s wife, some seriously weird shit right there!

I was recommended this movie by a friend and he didn’t let me down. A real surpise hit movie. It’s a little like the TV show Dexter, you end up rooting for the bad guy!

Plot
The plot focuses on a man who, ten years after his wife and daughter are brutally murdered, returns to extract justice from the assistant district attorney who prosecuted the case against their killers. His vengeance threatens not only the man who allowed mercy to supersede justice, but also the system and the city that made it so.

OK yes I went to see it and overall I really liked it. I can see why the budget was large and why James Cameron held off making it till today’s CGI was up to the task. The storyline was a little predictable and plays on the current eco challenges of today.

The visial effects are stunning. Viewing a movie in 3D is going to become a lot more common I would think as this movie really raises the bar. It really is a case of a video game on the big screen.

Aussie Sam Worthington’s first big international release is a good one (he shot this before Terminator 4). He plays the lead character, a disabled ex marine who uses an alien body know as an Avatar.

Colonel Quaritch was by far and away my favourite character of the movie. Stephan Lang plays the roll to a tea. His character leads the mercenary contingent protecting human economic interests on the moon of Pandora.

One couldn’t help find a few striking similarities to Sarge from Quake III Arena however

The game is being released at the same time.
Forget Avatar, with a title like that this movie can’t fail!
From the moment I saw the preview this movie intrigued me….well what a ripper.
Seriously this is the BEST movie I’ve seen this year. It’s not often I walk out of the a movie and think, I can’t really fault that? It’s shot in documentary style and yes it does lack initial character development but so many alien movies start off too slow where this doesn’t.

Don’t expect your typical BS Hollywood tripe special effects sci-fi movie with no story line and a shit ending because that’s exactly what it’s not. This movie – while the CGI was top notch it was refreshing to see a deep and dramatic storyline. It’s sort of split in two and starts off a little comical but ends on a very serious note.

In short the story line revolves around an extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth suddenly find a kindred spirit in a government agent that is exposed to their biotechnology.
On another note, don’t take young kids as there’s a lot of real violence and plenty of lifelike gore where the blood dries brown not pink.

Flynn Lives – Tron Legacy Trailer
It’s been a long time coming and talk about a remake has been around for the last few years. A new trailer has popped up on the net, check it out – the HD version looks amazing. The CGI is looking really cool as things have advacned just a touch in the world of special effects since 1982!

Jeff Bridges is reprising his role as Kevin Flynn once again.
Tron has been used comically in popular culture for years now.

The Tron guy on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Here’s a trailer for the original version.

One genre I’ve already been a huge fan of is horror and especially the vampire angle. A show I got onto recently and am now hooked on is HBO’s hit cable series True Blood. Not that you’d call this a horror show by any means, it’s quite adult and can be very funny in parts.

The series follows Sookie Stackhouse, a barmaid living in Louisiana who can read people’s minds, and how her life is turned upside down when the Vampire Bill, walks into her place of employment two years after vampires ‘came out of the coffin’ on national television.
The name True Blood refers to the Japanese synthetic blood supplement ‘mainstreaming’ vampires drink instead of feeding on humans.

Season 2 started last month in the US and I believe a third series has already been approved with is big props to how popular it is.

If you’d never heard of it have a look at the promo for the first series.
